Manhattan Theatre Club has announced a one-week extension of its Broadway revival of Terrence McNally’s Master Class, starring Tyne Daly as Maria Callas. The play, which began previews on June 14 and is scheduled to open on July 7, will now play through August 21 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
Stephen Wadsworth’s production also stars Sierra Boggess (Sharon Graham), Clinton Brandhagen (Stagehand), Jeremy Cohen (Emmanuel Weinstock), Alexandra Silber (Sophie De Palma) and Garrett Sorenson (Anthony Candolino).
Master Class centers on Maria Callas, who began teaching opera hopefuls after her own career ended, daring the next generation to make the same sacrifices and rise to the same heights that made her the most celebrated, most reviled and most controversial singer of her time. The original production won the 1996 Best Play Tony Award.
